Stroller Running and the Bumbleride Speed – Run She Is Beautiful Blog

{Excerpt from Run She Is Beautiful Blog by Paula of @fitfam6}

Let’s chat about a stroller for a hot minute.  It’s not a secret that 99% of all my running is done with a stroller. Fact. However, what I don’t share enough about is that I have tried quite a few strollers (tried 7), either because I own quite a few (ummmm my husband Dave thinks I have a stroller hoarding problem. Embarrassingly, I have 5. I refuse to talk about it) or I have been able to borrow a stroller. I use the stroller for running errands to long runs to all kinds of training workouts. My strollers get put through a lot! Not only with the miles that I put on them, but also with Asher and his behaviors that come along with his disability. Let’s not forget that he was able to literally break a Bugaboo stroller seat less than a year ago because of said behaviors.  For a 25lb-ish 5 year old he seems to have Herculean type strength.

It has taken me nearly 3 years to find the perfect blend of strollers.  Lots of trial and error, paying attention to how Asher responded to each stroller and most importantly how my body responded to each stroller.  No two running strollers are made the same.  Bumbleride is now my stroller of choice, but about 3 years ago I thought I found the stroller of my dreams and at that time, it was the perfect stroller. Asher went from hating everything about being in any stroller to loving it with the Bugaboo Runner. It got me through 3 training cycles great until Asher simply was too big.  The max capacity for the Runner is only 37.5 pounds. Asher is far from that, but he simply got too big. It was awkward for him and there really are no pockets or ways to attach snacks for him. I then moved on to two strollers of varying popularity: Thule Urban Glide stroller and Bob Flex stroller…” READ MORE.

“Oh and one last “Hey you should really try this stroller” argument, I ran a local race this past weekend. Last minute sign up read that as 10 minutes before it started I registered. What was suppose to be an easy run day with Asher in the Bumbleride turned into me trying to see what I could do with the stroller racing. My first race with the Bumbleride did not disappoint. I finished top 10, first female OA, first stroller (there were a lot surprisingly) and first in AG. I consider that pretty awesome for my first Bumbleride Stroller race and think it should be convincing enough in itself to let others know Bumbleride is awesome!

Review Of The Month – “The perfect always on the go stroller”

Write a Review & WIN! – Review Of The Month

  The perfect always on the go stroller!

It has been two years since we received our Indie and it is probably my favorite purchase for our family. It is one of the smoothest rides when it comes to any terrain (I’ve tested so many different strollers from friends), quick and easy to fold and put in the car, lightweight, extremely easy maneuverability, and beautiful to look at. The indie has kept up with my husbands long runs, roller skating on a crowded boardwalk, beach walks, walking trails, and city streets. Not to mention countless airports… Not only is the stroller itself wonderful, the company is too. Finding out they were a smaller San Diego based company was quite a nice surprise. The customer service is exceptional (thanks Kandi!!) and always quick to respond. It was only natural for my first purchase for our second baby on the way to be the Indie Twin. … I didn’t mean for this to get so long but I can’t say enough about how awesome the Indie is! It’s worth the cost and pays for itself if you’re planning on using a stroller constantly, no matter what the terrain. Thanks Bumbleride!” – Kim

Improve How You Move : Running Stroller Form

Calling all stroller runners and walkers who want to avoid injuries and get stronger!  Sara, Assistant Race Director of Run She Is Beautiful 5 & 10k is also a Doctor of Physical Therapy with some really great knowledge that she would like to share with you about staying healthy while running with a stroller. We are proud to offer one of the only stroller division races in the country, with our Bumbleride Baby Mama Division and can’t wait to see you out there running with your kids.

Running while pushing little ones is different for every person.  Many of us had idyllic visions of cruising effortlessly through beautiful scenery while our child cheered us on. We were soon hit with the hard reality that a stroller and the weight of that beautiful child was harder than it looks!  Beyond that, while the cheers of “Go Mama or Dada” can be heard occasionally, keeping said child entertained with endless rounds of “Itsy, Bitsy, Spider” and a constant commentary of all the vehicles you see driving by raised your heart rate to new levels, while your pace still slowed.  Finally, many people who are picking up stroller running are new moms who have just put their bodies through the rigors of pregnancy and birth.  They might have additional areas of weakness caused by these things AND are likely still under the control of hormones that make their tissues more flexible and possibly more prone to injury (these hormones have been shown to remain active in the body until 3-6 months AFTER you stop breastfeeding).

With that said, for many parents, a stroller run is the only way for them to get a run in or a time they truly enjoy spending with their child.

Today, we would like to bring you some tips to improve your stroller running form, both to prevent injuries AND improve efficiency….Read More.
